A Gift to the Community

Noted Canadian artist Jane Shaw Law (Hon. D. Letters ’93) arrived at Saint Mary’s in 1968 when her husband, World War II veteran and naval war artist Commander Anthony Law (Hon. D. Letters ’81), became the first curator of the Saint Mary’s University Art Gallery.

A devoted friend to Saint Mary’s, Jane passed away in March 2010 at the age of 92, leaving the university a substantial bequest, funding the Jane Shaw Law & C. Anthony Law Permanent Collection Fund.

Gallery Director Robin Metcalfe describes this bequest as an enduring gift from Jane Shaw Law and her husband to the artistic community in Nova Scotia, and, in particular, to the Saint Mary’s University Art Gallery.
