Peer Success Coaching Program
The Peer Success Coaching Program provides coaches to each new student for their first year at SMU. Peer Success Coaches are upper-year students dedicated to guiding new students through their transition to university life. The coaches offer a student perspective to the students they coach, informing them on adjusting to university life and academics, accessing campus resources, problem-solving and goal-setting, and getting involved on campus.
Want to speak to your Peer Coach? Individual appointments can be made through our online booking system. If you don't know who your coach is, email us at peercoaching@smu.ca and we will figure it out for you!
Drop-in hours are Tuesday from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. Feel free to come by the Student Success Centre!

Meet the Team!
Hey! I'm Angie, an Antiguan third-year Faculty of Arts student studying Law and Ethics. As a student athlete, I spend a lot of my time in training all year round, but I especially love to spend my free time swimming and playing tennis during the summer time. I also enjoy reading a mixture of thriller and romance books. I like meeting new people and learning their stories. I can't wait to hear your story, and am so excited to help you on this new chapter!
Tip for Success: Get involved! There is something for everyone - societies, teams, and events for diverse interests. Plus, it's a great way to network, make new friends, and have fun!
Hey there, I'm Sourav, a third-year student at Saint Mary's University. My academic focus is on Finance and Information Systems, and I am from Sylhet, Bangladesh. Football is my ultimate passion, and Chelsea is my favorite team. When I'm not on the field, I enjoy immersing myself in the world of video games, and I proudly represent SMU E-sports as an athlete. Exploring various cuisines is another delight of mine, and I have an insatiable appetite for all kinds of delectable foods and sweets!
Tip for Success: University is a time for exploration. Whether it is exploring Halifax, potential majors, or different ways to get involved, say YES to the experiences that will benefit you.
Hi everyone, my name is Hailey and I am a third-year Psychology student, born and raised in Halifax, Nova Scotia. In my downtime, I love to paint and read; I specifically love to paint realism with acrylics and read psychological thrillers. I also have three cats named Otis, Oliver, and Beans and I love being active in the gym and running. I am so thrilled to be meeting with you and lend a helping hand with whatever you need!
Tip for Success: Use all the campus resources you can! Places such as the Fred Smithers Centre for students with disabilities, the Writing Centre, Academic Advisors etc., they are here to help YOU!
I’m Liah, a fourth-year Honours Chemistry student in the Faculty of Science. Born and raised in Halifax, Nova Scotia, I chose Saint Mary’s for its small class sizes and the excellent research opportunities available to students. I’m passionate about getting involved on campus and in the broader community through different societies and advocacy groups. In my free time, I love getting outside, listening to music, and enjoying everything Halifax has to offer. I’m excited to meet with you and support you on your academic journey!
Tip for Success: Start early! With a busy university schedule, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. Starting early and building a holistic routine that works for you will always benefit you in the long run.
Hey! I’m Tina, an international student from Sierra Leone. I'm a second-year Finance and Economics major. My favorite sport is tennis, I absolutely love reading (my favorite genre is true crime), and I play the piano and chess too. A fun fact about me is that I collect model toy cars. I also love learning random fun facts and dad jokes! I’ve got so many studying and productivity tips that I can’t wait to share with you guys!
Tip for Success: Access on-campus support systems for mental and physical well-being early in your academic journey.
Hey there, I'm Carlos! I’m a second-year student studying Astrophysics. I was born in the UK but because of my parent's jobs, I had to move from country to country until we finally settled in Canada. I listen to music pretty much on a daily basis. I also love video games and play them as often as I can. In my spare time, I enjoy hanging out with friends and going to the gym. I hope to form meaningful connections and friendships, and exchange stories with every one of you!
Tip for Success: In university, it's all about your mindset. Don’t let yourself get dragged down by your thoughts. Believe in your capabilities and you’ll go far for sure!
Hi! My name is Kaeandra. I am an international student from Jamaica, I am currently in my final year of a Bachelor of Arts with a major in Psychology. I love reading, hanging out with my friends and singing, especially all at the same time. In fact, my friends would probably tell you that it's really easy for me to get songs stuck in my head, and in theirs too! I can’t wait to meet you and see how we can learn from each other!
Tip for Success: Surround yourself with motivating individuals who inspire you
