New to SMU Welcome
Every year, Saint Mary's University welcomes students from all over the world. It's an exciting time!
New to SMU Welcome marks the beginning of your life at Saint Mary's and is designed to help you meet new people, learn how to be a successful university student and of course to have fun. Information For Getting Started
1. Ensure You are Eligible to Start Classes

During COVID-19, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has made exemptions regarding Study Permit regulations and Post-Graduate Work Permit qualifications. To ensure you are eligible to begin your classes online and/or from abroad, please read the regulations and exemptions pertaining to your situation.
2. Register for Courses

Each student accepted to Saint Mary's will be given a Banner Pin Number. Use your pin number to log onto the Banner Self-Service – click here for the Self-Service Page. Once you have logged into Banner Self-Service, you can modify your personal information, register for courses, add/drop courses and monitor your progress through courses.
Currently, you can consult virtually (by email or phone) with the academic advisors for the Faculty in which you will study, i.e. either Arts, Business or Science.
3. Payment Options, Due Dates and Transferring Money to Saint Mary's

Please include your full name and Student ID when paying and transferring money.
4. Join the Peer Success Coaching Program
Let us connect you with a current Saint Mary's student who will give you advice on living and learning in Canada. Your student mentor will share their experiences coming to study at Saint Mary's and help you find answers to questions you might have.
5. Contact the International Student Centre for Assistance
The International Student Centre advisors are available to assist you. If you have any questions, please email international.centre@smu.ca. The advisors are answering questions regularly and booking virtual appointments if needed. They are happy to offer assistance and look forward to welcoming new students to the international student community at Saint Mary's University.
